Beacons Way Day 6: Craig-y-Nos to Llanddeusant

About

This is the sixth section of the Beacons Way, a 99-mile (159km) long-distance route across Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), starting in the town of Abergavenny at the eastern end and ending in the village of Llangadog at the western end of the park. As you traverse the diverse terrain, you'll encounter awe-inspiring peaks, beautiful valleys, cascading waterfalls, and fascinating historical sites. This section takes you from Craig y Nos to Llanddeusant by heading across Y Mynydd Du (The Black Mountain) range of Bannau Brycheiniog.

Set out from Craig-y-nos and follow the path across the River Tawe and along the base of the escarpment to the banks of Llyn Fan Fawr.

From the lakeside, make the ascent along the slope of Fan Hir, up to Fan Brycheiniog, and continue along the escarpment’s edge to Fan Foel, Bannau Sir Gaer, and Waun Lefrith before descending to Llanddeusant.

Along the way, enjoy the fantastic views of Llyn Fan Fach below, which according to Welsh folklore is said to be inhabited by the Lady of the Lake.

Before setting out, ensure you have thoroughly researched the route, familiarised yourself with the trail's elevation profile, and checked the weather forecast. Come prepared with the appropriate footwear, layering, and the proper gear.

Book accommodation along the trail in advance, as availability can be limited, especially during peak seasons. Some sections may have limited access to shops or facilities, so plan accordingly.
