Henrhyd Falls and Nant Llech Walk

About

This trail winds along the southern fringes of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), taking you to visit the Henrhyd Falls and explore the beautiful sights along the Nant Llech.

This trail begins at a National Trust car park near the village of Coelbryn and leads you through two gates, descending to the Nant Llech Gorge. Traverse the wooden bridge and ascend the steep steps on the other side, leading you to the stunning Henrhyd Falls, which at 27 metres, is the highest waterfall in South Wales.

Retrace your steps to the junction beyond the bridge and continue on the path along the Nant Llech. Exercise caution on the steps, particularly during wet weather, as they may become slippery.

Along the course of the river, you'll encounter a series of smaller cascades, each contributing to the beauty of the surroundings

There is a abundant wildlife and diverse birdlife, so keep a watchful eye as you meander through the oak and ash woodland.

The path will lead you past Melin Llech, a disused watermill (please note that it is not open to the public for visiting), before continuing to the confluence with the River Tawe. From there, retrace your steps to return to the car park, completing the trail.

Please keep in mind that there is some steep and rugged terrain along these paths, so great care is needed with footing and sturdy footwear is required, especially when navigating the descents near the waterfalls and the sudden drops.

Exercise extra caution in wetter and icy conditions when the paths can become slippery. This trail is therefore best attempted in dry weather.

Please be aware that this trail is quite popular and tends to attract crowds on weekends and holidays, resulting in the car park filling quickly.
