Pilton Green, Goats Hole Cave, and Port Eynon

About

This circular route takes you from the pretty village of Port Eynon, along the stunning cliffs of the Gower Peninsula and through the Long Hole Cliff Nature Reserve, to the famous Goat's Hole Cave.

You'll get brilliant views of the sea and the dramatic coastline, and the limestone cliffs are a fantastic habitat for the rare chough, a red-billed member of the crow family that you can often see tumbling through the air.

The caves are a highlight along this route. Goat's Hole Cave, also known as Paviland Cave, is where the 'Red Lady of Paviland' was discovered in 1823. This is the oldest ceremonial burial of a modern human ever found in Western Europe. The 'Red Lady' was actually a young man, whose bones were stained red with ochre

The path is rough and some scrambling may be required to get to the cave, so good boots are a must. There is a pay and display car park at the sea front in Port Eynon.
