St Thomas Way 2: Margam
About
St Thomas Way is made up of 13 circular trails inspired by the ancient pilgrimage undertaken in the 1290 by William Cragh and Lord and Lady Du Briouze. After Cragh's surprisingly unsuccessful hanging by the order of Lord Du Briouze, the miraculous survival was attributed to St Thomas, and William and his companions set off from Swansea to Hereford Cathedral and the shrine of this saint.
This circular takes you round Margam Country Park, the location of Margam Abbey and the Church of St Mary, Margam Castle, and the deer park developed in the Middle Ages. Take care on the rougher sections, especially in wetter conditions. Appropriate footwear is advised.
