Y Ffordd Haearn (The Iron Track)
About
This is a lovely trail along the slopes of Mynydd Bach to visit the Keeper of the Collieries Sculpture overlooking Maesteg in the valley below.
Follow the orange waymarkers for this route, which lead you uphill to follow the waterway along the hillside and continue on a section of the North’s Navigation Railway as you pass Nanyffyllon.
Continue on the bridleway to the Keeper of the Collieries Sculpture, which stands atop the site of the former Coegnant Colliery and Maestef Washery. It was built out of oak and depicts a miner.
From here, make your way back down to Maesteg, where there are plenty of places to get some refreshments afterwards.
The trail involves some steep sections and areas that may be muddy at times, so come prepared with the appropriate footwear.
