Shippingback Wood and Barafundle Bay Circular
About
Enjoy a spectacular walk on the Pembrokeshire coast, visiting one of Britain's most beautiful beaches. This circular route takes you through the lovely, sheltered Shippingback Wood before revealing the stunning golden sands and clear waters of Barafundle Bay. The walk involves some steep steps down to the beach, but it is well worth the effort for the amazing scenery.
The woods and the lakes were all once part of the grounds of Stackpole Court, a huge country house that was demolished after the Second World War, owned by the Campbell family
On the coast, the limestone cliffs are a nesting site for seabirds like fulmars and kittiwakes, and the clear waters of Barafundle Bay are great for spotting marine life.
The path in the woods can be muddy, so good boots are advised. The walk begins at Stackpole Quay, where there is a National Trust car park (charges apply for non-members).
